What is your name? Catie's just fine.
How do we find you? Chiefquimby540@yahoo.com is the address I check the most often. Then I'm quimby_pi on Y!M and quimby here at IJ.
Who do you want to be when you come here? Mary Poppins
Where are they from? She shows up in all sorts of forms, but this one here will be coming from the film Mary Poppins.
How old are they? It's not a bit polite to inquire about a lady's age, as well you should learn. Suffice it to say that she is quite old enough to take care of herself, but there is not yet nor shall there ever be a gray hair among all the black ones on her head.
Do they like teddy bears? She does indeed, though has never had one of her own. She has been too old for toys since long before anyone even thought to clutch at a plush bear with his or her chubby little hands.
Tell us about them! The proper story of Mary Poppins could fill volumes, and, in fact, books have already been filled by telling only the tip of her iceberg. Here is something never to forget about Mary Poppins: she was a child once, and she's never forgotten that. That sense of wonder and spirited, unbridled optimism is something she has seen in thousands of children, but what separates her from the cold, distant gods and immortals is that she remembers what it feels like. That young fire has been tempered, of course, and hidden down behind duty and experience, but it's still there.
Another thing to remember is that she is a nanny, and the best of all them. Mary Poppins is a nanny and has been one for a very long time. Experience is on her side, for it was her into her arms that Aphrodite had thrust the squalling, red-faced baby Eros to be raised. He was the first child she tended to, but since then she has raised more than she could count, all around the world. Kings have fed at her breast during her time as a wet nurse, and orphans have been graced by her smile and gentle hand. She goes to children, to families, who need her regardless of where and when they are.
There are some things about Mary Poppins that do not change, wherever she is and whomever she's caring for. She is kind, but firm when need be. She is cheery and patient, but can be irritated and frustrated when things spiral out of her control. She holds high expectations of people, in part because she knows better than they do just what they are capable of. Mary doesn't explain herself to anyone, or, in words she wouldn't use, she doesn't take shit from people. She can be vain and jealous, though there are not many people who can get under her skin to make her feel that way. Mary can be unwound and let her long dark hair tumbling round her shoulders but only rarely let others people see her that way. She likes being neat and having everything just so. Mary Poppins is a proper lady who brings people what they need, be it organization or chaos.
She is not a god, never worshiped but often beloved. Rather- she is just a young woman who fails to get older. There are certain abilities, powers, that she has picked up along the way. Creatures understand her, the material world bends to her will in many things. Let it be put simply- Mary Poppins always accomplishes what she wants to, however the world must bend slightly to accommodate her. No one quite knows her limits, for she wisely does not push herself past them in the presence of others.
There is one more thing that you should- you must know if you are to know Mary Poppins beyond her occupation. She has never had a family, and she doesn't stay anywhere very long. And while practically perfect people do not let sentiment cloud their thinking, this leaves an aching in her soul that few things can assuage.
Have THEM tell us about YOU! Catie, Catherine is her given name, is a nice young lady whose head is not always where it should be. Her potential is great, but if only she were to apply herself then she would solve her problems with much less heartache. Nonetheless, she is a sweet girl, if prone to silliness.
If they got attacked by communist vampires, what would they do? They must be very foolish vampires, whatever their political leanings, to try to attack Mary Poppins. Even the more unsavory creatures should know better. Even the dumbest of beasts should be able to sense the power curled up in her slender, petticoat-clad form. However, if they did, Mary would dispatch of them quickly and without much effort by incapacitating them without killing them. If they were injured, it would be only enough to teach them a lesson.
What will they wear to my fancy dress party? It would depend entirely on the sort of fancy dress party and who was throwing it. You can be certain, though, that whatever sort of fancy dress party it is, Mary will be dressed to the nines without being the fanciest or flashiest lady there. She is neat and lovely while never quite achieving glamorous. It doesn't do for a nanny to be gorgeous or luscious for it only attracts unwanted attention, particularly from the head of the household. Even for Mary Poppins. But it can be assured that, whatever the party, Mary will be dressed for the season and probably come in wearing gloves and a hat. An English spring garden party, maybe she would wear something like this.
